Every project is about maximising scope within a finite cost. It’s a complex challenge that requires constant attention throughout the entire process.

I like to think of scope and cost as two levers that we pull to move the project toward your budget. At the start of the project we can make significant adjustments to both scope and budget. This is feasibility testing to find what truly works for you.

Getting it close to right at the start makes it much easier to stay on track later because as the design progresses and details become more certain, the lever moves less. There are always unknowns and curveballs along the way, but we use contingencies to plan for this and minimise surprises (as the diagram below shows). Even during the construction stage, the lever still moves, but by that point, it’s within tightly controlled parameters that it can be easily managed.

Truthfully, it’s not always possible to get everything on the wish list within the budget available. My process will help you work out what matters so you can make informed decisions every step of the way.
