I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which I work across Australia, and pay my respects to their continuing culture, knowledge and traditions. Sovereignty was never ceded.

I charge a fixed fee per phase, but the number isn’t the full story.

I always say a good design and a bad design cost about the same upfront. The difference is the value you get.

Design itself is actually the smallest cost component of a project, making up about 2% of the cost incurred over the project’s lifetime. But design is the starting point that determines every other cost that follows.

Right at the top of the cost hierarchy are the property and lifecycle costs, then it’s the construction cost, followed by the organisational costs of documentation, planning, permits, and authority charges. At the bottom is design, the smallest cost, but the biggest lever.

Think about it this way. A design that is efficient, well considered, well-built, and planned for the future will give you better long-term value and pay you back many times over.
