Good Bones is an architecture practice based on palawa and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country.
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which I work across Australia, and pay my respects to their continuing culture, knowledge and traditions. Sovereignty was never ceded.

X
Vaughan Bones — I grew up in country Tasmania drawing house plans at the kitchen table. The combination of drawing, designing, and problem-solving stayed with me. After a decade in Melbourne with established and award-winning firms, I started Good Bones, a practice reflecting my values and approach to architecture.

Good Bones — an expression of who I am, what I value, and how I work. A small architecture practice built around a simple idea: Good Architecture should be thoughtful, sustainable, and accessible. My approach is guided by three pillars that shape every project:

Grounded Good Architecture is grounded. Aware of context and history, working with the environment, and designing without attachment to styles or trends.

It feels natural, and so should the process behind it. It is deliberate and quietly confident, ultimately feeling like it couldn't be any other way.

Robust
Good Architecture is robust. Understanding what makes your project unique leads to creative and carefully designed buildings.

Adapting to a changing climate, meeting the needs of people and community, and ensuring longevity through future-proofed systems and materials designed to wear in, not wear out.

Meaningful
Good Architecture is meaningful. A delight to occupy, comfortably supporting your lifestyle and providing a backdrop to the activities and rituals of everyday life.

Listening to you and understanding your needs—ensuring your project is an enduring representation of you.

Registered in Victoria and Tasmania, I completed my Masters of Architecture with First Class Honours at the University of Tasmania. I teach design studio at Monash University, and outside the office enjoy playing tennis, bushwalking, and travelling to experience architecture firsthand.
